Guide: Los Angeles to Paris

Los Angeles to Paris is about 11 hours eastbound and close to 12 hours westbound. Air France flies nonstop from LAX to Charles de Gaulle year-round, and many more options connect through New York, Atlanta or European hubs such as Amsterdam and London. The eastbound nonstop is an overnight flight that lands in Paris the next morning or around midday, which leaves room for a full night of sleep. The return is a long daytime flight, so a comfortable seat for working or watching films matters as much as the bed.

Which airport: LAX out, Charles de Gaulle in

Every nonstop with a business cabin on this route leaves LAX and lands at Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG), about 14 miles (23 km) northeast of the city center. The one LAX to Orly nonstop in the schedules is French Bee, a low-cost airline that sells only premium economy and economy, so for business class plan on Charles de Gaulle.

At LAX, Air France flights are listed at Terminal B, the Tom Bradley International Terminal. Delta's own flight leaves from Terminal 3, where Delta has a dedicated check-in area for Delta One customers. Passengers can walk from Terminal 3 to the Tom Bradley terminal after security, which matters if you use a lounge in one terminal and board in the other.

In Paris, Air France and Delta both use Terminal 2E, while Air Tahiti Nui is listed at Terminal 2B. Terminal 2 also has a high-speed rail station for onward trains across France.

Nonstop or one stop: the direct flights and the connections

Air France flies nonstop from LAX to Charles de Gaulle all year, on Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A350-900 aircraft; the business seat varies by aircraft, and reconfigured 777-300ERs have a newer reverse-herringbone seat with a door, so ask which version is scheduled. Summer is the busy season: at the height of summer 2026 it scheduled three daily departures plus a fourth late-evening flight. In the timetable from late October 2026 that drops to two daily flights, with a third late-evening flight on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Delta also flies the route nonstop: schedule data lists DL 290 on the Airbus A350-900, daily through summer 2026 and on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 27 October 2026. Delta says its international flights from LAX use the A350-900 with 40 Delta One seats, and Delta One Suites on most A350 flights have doors. Air France and Delta sell seats on each other's flights, so one ticket can pair an Air France flight out with a Delta flight home. Air Tahiti Nui adds a Boeing 787-9 nonstop (TN 8) on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 25 October 2026.

If the direct flights are full, the usual one-stop paths run through Amsterdam on KLM, which flies LAX to Amsterdam daily on the Boeing 787-10; through London Heathrow on British Airways, Virgin Atlantic or American; or through an East Coast hub. Delta connects through Atlanta and Air France through New York JFK. A connection adds several hours.

Overnight east, daytime west

Eastbound is an overnight flight of about 10 and a half to 11 hours. In the 2026 schedules, Air France and Delta departures leave LAX between about 2 pm and 10 pm and land at Charles de Gaulle between about 10 am and 5 pm the next day; Air Tahiti Nui leaves around 12:35 pm and lands around 7 am. Paris is normally nine hours ahead of Los Angeles, so a mid-afternoon departure is already past midnight in Paris.

The afternoon flights match the Paris night: eat in the lounge, sleep most of the way and land in the late morning. The departures around 9 pm feel like a Los Angeles bedtime but land in the late afternoon, so you lose the day but can sleep at a normal local hour. Delta's early-evening flight lands in the early afternoon.

Westbound is a daytime flight of about 11 and a half to 12 hours. Departures from Charles de Gaulle run from about 10 am to 7 pm and reach LAX the same day, between early afternoon and about 10:30 pm. For two short windows a year the gap is eight hours instead of nine: from 25 October to 1 November 2026, and again from 14 to 28 March 2027. Times on the ticket shift by an hour in those weeks.

When to go and what moves the fare

Summer is the peak, and the schedule shows it: Air France runs about four departures a day in midsummer against two or three in winter, and Delta's flight is daily only in the warmer months. June to August business cabins tend to fill first, with fares usually at their highest. July highs average 25.7°C (78.3°F), and heat waves go far higher.

Spring and autumn are milder, with April and October highs both around 16.5°C (62°F), but they are not empty. The French Open brings crowds for two weeks from late May, Paris Fashion Week runs twice a year, and May has a run of French public holidays: 1 May, 8 May, Ascension on 6 May 2027 and Whit Monday on 17 May 2027. May is also the wettest month on average.

The quieter months, with more open seats and lower fares, are usually November to March outside the Christmas and New Year holidays. January highs average 7.6°C (45.7°F). Bastille Day (14 July) and the Assumption holiday (15 August) fall inside the summer peak.

Entry rules for US citizens, as of October 2026

As of October 2026, US passport holders do not need a visa for short visits to France, which is part of the Schengen area. The United States is among the EU's visa-free countries, and short stays are capped at 90 days in any 180-day period across all Schengen countries combined. Your passport must have been issued within the previous 10 years and stay valid for at least three months after the date you plan to leave. Rules change, so check before you fly.

Border guards may ask where you are staying, for a return ticket and about your funds. The EU's Entry/Exit System has been fully operational since 10 April 2026: instead of stamping passports, officers record your passport details, fingerprints and a facial image, along with the date and place of each entry and exit. The first registration may take longer.

ETIAS, the EU's planned travel authorization for visa-exempt visitors, is not required yet. The European Commission's ETIAS page, dated 6 October 2025, says the system is not in operation, no applications are being collected, and the start date will be announced several months before launch. A website taking ETIAS applications today is not an official one.

Baggage, lounges and the ground in Paris

Air France and Delta set business class baggage allowances by fare and route, so check the allowance shown on your ticket before you pack. Delta's baggage page applies a 70 lb (32 kg) limit per bag in Delta One, against 50 lb in its economy cabins.

At LAX, Delta runs two Delta One Lounges: one in Terminal 3, open 4:15 am to 11:30 pm, and one on the mezzanine level of Terminal 2. Delta lists Air France long-haul business among the qualifying partner cabins on a same-day departure, and Delta's own Basic Business fares lose access for travel from 19 January 2027. Air France boards from Terminal B, so allow time for the walk; the Tom Bradley terminal also has a SkyTeam lounge, and your agent can confirm which lounge your ticket includes.

The RER B commuter line runs from the airport's two stations to Gare du Nord, Chatelet-Les Halles, Saint-Michel-Notre-Dame and Denfert-Rochereau, but it shares a tunnel with the RER D in central Paris and gets crowded. Taxis charge a flat fare into the city that depends on whether you are going to the Right Bank or the Left Bank. The CDG Express, a 20-minute direct train to Gare de l'Est, is scheduled to open on 28 March 2027, so check whether it is running when you travel.

Booking tips

  • If the Air France nonstop is full for your dates, a connection in New York, Atlanta, Amsterdam or London still puts you in a lie-flat seat across the Atlantic.
  • Use the long eastbound night well: eat early or in the lounge and sleep through to breakfast.
  • Spring and fall usually offer better seats and gentler weather in Paris than July and August.

Den Dunn worked with me to get the best price He planned our return trip from Turkeye with an airline that I had no knowledge about. He assured me that Turkish air was great, which they were. He planned our change of planes in Houston, and it was one of the smoothest transitions I have ever had. There was no long lay over. I will definitely be giving him a call the nest time we travel .

Diesel Bond was such a perfect agent. My Visa to Pakistan was extremely hard to do by myself. After 4 months going back forth with submission I was totally worn out. I had never used agency before and will never go back to doing myself! Your agency gave me such peace of mind! Will refer you to everyone! Charles Robards
