The Allegris business class seat
Allegris is Lufthansa’s newest long-haul cabin. In business class it mixes 1-2-1 rows with 1-1-1 rows, and every seat has direct aisle access. There are several seat types: front-row suites with doors, solo center seats with extra space, window privacy seats, seats with a bed of about 2.2 meters, and, on some aircraft, paired seats in the last row that form a double bed. Newer Airbus A350-900s carry 38 Allegris business seats; the Boeing 787-9 carries 28.

In October 2026 Allegris flies on ten Munich A350-900s and fifteen Frankfurt 787-9s, about a quarter of the long-haul fleet, and Allegris A350-1000s start flying from Munich at the end of 2026. Three 787-9s built for another airline keep a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone seat that also gives every seat aisle access, and some 787-9 flights to Chicago and New York JFK were filed without Allegris. Lufthansa plans Allegris for its Boeing 747-8s too, but by September 2026 no existing aircraft had been refitted.
Most other long-haul aircraft, including the 747s, A340s, A330s and A350s delivered before Allegris, keep the earlier lie-flat seat in a mostly 2-2-2 layout, where window passengers step past a neighbor; four A350s taken over from Philippine Airlines have a different, newer seat. The eight Munich A380s are getting a new upper-deck business seat, not Allegris, with direct aisle access, all due by mid-2027.
Routes from the US
Lufthansa flies nonstop to Frankfurt and Munich from close to twenty US airports. Frankfurt flights filed for winter 2026-27 include Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas Fort Worth, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, New York JFK, Raleigh-Durham, St. Louis, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington Dulles. Munich flights include Chicago O’Hare, Los Angeles, Miami, Newark, New York JFK, San Diego, San Francisco and Washington Dulles.
Not every route runs daily all year. Dallas Fort Worth and Seattle drop to five flights a week this winter, and Raleigh-Durham and St. Louis are filed at three flights a week from January 2027. Schedules change each season, so confirm the days for your dates.
Lounges in the US and at the hubs
Lufthansa runs its own business lounges at Boston Terminal E, Detroit’s Evans Terminal, Newark Terminal B and New York JFK Terminal 1. The Washington Dulles lounge is closed for renovation until the end of 2026, and Lufthansa sends eligible passengers to partner lounges there. At other gateways, Star Alliance rules let a business class passenger on an international Star Alliance flight use member airlines’ business lounges at the departure airport on the day of travel, without guests.
In Frankfurt, Lufthansa has business lounges in the A, B, C and Z areas of Terminal 1. Munich’s Lufthansa lounges sit behind security in Terminal 2 near the G and H gates and in the satellite building at the K and L gates. Business passengers landing in Frankfurt on a Lufthansa intercontinental flight can use the Welcome Lounge in Terminal 1, area B, with morning showers and breakfast; it sits after baggage claim, so it suits travelers ending their trip there.
Baggage and fare rules
A regular Lufthansa business class ticket includes two checked bags of up to 32 kg (70 lb) each, and no bag may exceed 158 cm (62 in) in total dimensions. In the cabin you can bring two carry-on bags of up to 8 kg each, no larger than 55 x 40 x 23 cm, plus a small personal item. The allowance printed on your ticket is the one that counts.
Since March 2026 the Lufthansa Group has also sold Business Light fares on some long-haul markets, with one checked bag and no free seat reservation, though lounge access stays. They launched without North American routes, which Lufthansa could add later, so check the fare name on your quote.
On standard business fares the Classic Seat is free to reserve, while the Allegris Privacy Seat, Extra Long Bed, Extra Space Seat and Suite carry a fee; depending on status, Miles & More members can pick many of these free. Change and refund rules also depend on the fare. On Lufthansa’s published fare tables for flights within Europe, the Flex level allows rebooking without a change fee and a full refund, while cheaper levels charge to rebook and may not refund. Long-haul fares set their own conditions and a fare difference can apply, so read the rules on your quote before you pay.
Connecting in Frankfurt and Munich
At Frankfurt the minimum connecting time for Lufthansa flights has been 60 minutes since March 2025, including connections from a Schengen flight onto a flight to the US. Munich’s Terminal 2 is compact, with a satellite building reached by an underground shuttle that takes under a minute.
Germany is in the Schengen area, so if you connect to another Schengen city such as Prague, Budapest or Athens, you clear passport control at Frankfurt or Munich rather than at your final stop. US citizens can visit for up to 90 days in any 180 without a visa, with a passport valid at least three months past the planned departure from Europe. The EU Entry/Exit System, which records fingerprints and a facial photo, has been rolling out at German airports since late 2025 and can lengthen the line. ETIAS, the EU travel authorization, was not yet required as of late September 2026.
Connecting to a destination outside the Schengen area, you normally stay in the international part of the terminal without German passport control, though transfer passengers may pass another security check. If Germany is your final stop, Lufthansa Express Rail links Frankfurt Airport with German cities by ICE train on a Lufthansa booking; you look after your own bags on the train.
Choosing your flight and seat
Start with the aircraft. This winter Munich’s Allegris A350s serve Newark, Miami and San Diego, with older A350s on some dates; New York JFK and Chicago return to Allegris early in 2027, and Washington Dulles gets it from March 2027. From Frankfurt, Allegris 787-9s fly to Austin and Denver on most dates, Detroit and Atlanta from December, and Houston, Dallas Fort Worth and Raleigh-Durham by January 2027. Aircraft swaps happen, so ask your agent to recheck the seat map before departure. The seat matters most on overnight eastbound flights.
In Allegris, the front-row suites with doors give the most privacy and the solo center Extra Space seats give more room; both cost extra on most fares. Window Privacy seats suit solo travelers, the Extra Long Bed suits tall passengers, and couples can ask for the paired seats in the last row. On the earlier 2-2-2 seat, take an aisle seat if you do not want to climb over a neighbor; a couple can share one window and aisle pair. On the A380, a retrofitted jet gives you aisle access.

I had an excellent experience finding my business class tickets through BuyBusiness.com. The agent who helped me, Oslo Cooper, was honest, professional, and extremely attentive throughout the entire process. Oslo took the time to understand what I was looking for, answered all my questions, and made sure I was comfortable with my options before moving forward. I really appreciated the personal attention and transparency. It made the whole experience easy and stress-free. I’m very happy with the service I received and would definitely recommend BuyBusiness.com and Oslo Cooper to anyone looking for help with business class travel. Excellent service from start to finish!

Den Dunn worked with me to get the best price He planned our return trip from Turkeye with an airline that I had no knowledge about. He assured me that Turkish air was great, which they were. He planned our change of planes in Houston, and it was one of the smoothest transitions I have ever had. There was no long lay over. I will definitely be giving him a call the nest time we travel .

Diesel Bond was such a perfect agent. My Visa to Pakistan was extremely hard to do by myself. After 4 months going back forth with submission I was totally worn out. I had never used agency before and will never go back to doing myself! Your agency gave me such peace of mind! Will refer you to everyone! Charles Robards

Lufthansa business class: questions
Will my Lufthansa flight have Allegris?
Allegris is on a growing share of Lufthansa’s long-haul aircraft, starting with its Airbus A350s and newer Boeing 787s. Many flights still use the earlier lie-flat business seat, where not every seat has direct aisle access, so your agent can check the aircraft for your dates.
Do some Allegris business seats cost extra?
Yes. Lufthansa charges extra to reserve some of the larger Allegris business seats and suites. Your agent can explain the seat options and any fees for your fare.
Can you book Lufthansa First Class?
Yes. An agent can quote Lufthansa First Class on routes where it is sold, as well as business class. Ask by phone, the quote form or WhatsApp; agents are available 24/7, and the fare is confirmed with you before you pay.
Will my Lufthansa flight from the US have Allegris?
It depends on the aircraft. In October 2026 Allegris is on ten Munich A350-900s and most Frankfurt 787-9s. Flights on the A340, A330, older A350s and 747s keep the earlier seat. Your agent can check the aircraft for your date and recheck it before you fly.
Does every Lufthansa business class seat have direct aisle access?
Every Allegris business seat does, as do the 787-9s with the reverse herringbone cabin and the retrofitted A380s. The earlier seat on most other aircraft is mostly 2-2-2, so window passengers step past a neighbor.
How many bags can I check in Lufthansa business class?
Two bags of up to 32 kg (70 lb) each on a regular business fare, or one on a Business Light fare. In the cabin you get two bags of up to 8 kg each plus a personal item.
Can I use a lounge after landing in Frankfurt?
Yes, if you arrive in business class on a Lufthansa intercontinental flight. The Welcome Lounge in Terminal 1, area B, offers showers and breakfast in the morning. It sits after baggage claim, so it is for travelers leaving the airport.
How much time do I need to connect in Frankfurt?
Lufthansa’s standard minimum for its flights at Frankfurt is 60 minutes. Connecting to another Schengen city, you also clear passport control there, which can take longer while EU entry registration rolls out.
Do US citizens need a visa or ETIAS to connect through Germany?
No visa is needed for visits of up to 90 days in any 180. ETIAS was not yet required as of late September 2026 and had no start date. Your passport must be valid at least three months beyond your planned departure.
