The Club Suite seat and which aircraft have it

British Airways sells its long-haul business cabin as Club World, and its current seat is the Club Suite. The airline describes a fully flat bed of about 6 ft 6 in (198 cm) in a 1-2-1 layout, with direct aisle access from every seat and a door that closes for privacy. It first flew on the Airbus A350-1000 in 2019, in a 56-seat cabin, with about 40 percent more storage than the seat it replaced.

Read the full guideHide the full guide

By October 2026 the Club Suite is on every A350-1000, 787-8 and 787-10, and on the 777-200 and 777-300 aircraft based at Heathrow, according to a fleet tracker updated that month. The gaps are the 787-9, where about seven of 18 had been refitted, the A380, where none of the 12 had it yet, and every long-haul aircraft at London Gatwick, which keeps the old seat until new 787-10s start arriving in 2029.

On October 5, 2026 British Airways showed a refitted A380 with 106 Club Suites filling the upper deck, the first due in service in the coming months. Until then the A380 flies the older Club World seat, which is lie-flat but has no door, alternates forward and rear-facing positions, and sits eight across on the 777 and A380 main deck and seven across on the 787 and A380 upper deck. Window passengers in most rows step over a neighbor to reach the aisle, so not every seat has direct aisle access.

Nonstop routes from the US

Almost all British Airways US flying now goes to Heathrow, about 96 percent of US departures in late 2026. Established nonstop gateways include New York JFK, Boston, Washington Dulles, Philadelphia, Miami, Chicago O'Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Atlanta, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. New York is the deepest market, planned at nine daily JFK flights for summer 2026, and Newark is also served.

The wider network changes by season. For winter 2026 the airline planned Houston at 12 flights a week, Baltimore daily and New Orleans four times a week from October 25. Austin and San Diego were planned at twice daily for summer 2026, Las Vegas moved fully to Heathrow, and St. Louis launched on April 19, 2026 as a summer route. A six-week Heathrow to Orlando service ended on August 29, 2026.

Gatwick is now a small part of the US picture. Tampa moves from Gatwick to Heathrow on October 25, 2026, on a 787-10 with the Club Suite, five times weekly in winter. That leaves Orlando as the only Gatwick US route this winter, flown with the older seat. Last winter (2025/26) the A380, still with the older seat, was scheduled on Los Angeles, Miami and San Francisco, so check this winter's aircraft before booking those routes.

Lounges at Heathrow and in the US

At Heathrow Terminal 5, a business class ticket opens the three Galleries Club lounges: North and South in the main building and one in the B gates satellite. Galleries First is mainly for oneworld Emerald members and the Concorde Room is for First passengers, so neither comes with a Club World ticket alone.

After a morning arrival in London, Club World passengers can use the Terminal 5 Arrivals Lounge, which British Airways lists with showers and breakfast, subject to space. The airline plans to refurbish it starting in early 2027, with reopening due by the end of 2027, and a new lounge at the C gates is due at the end of 2028.

In New York, British Airways and American share Terminal 8 at JFK, and business class passengers have used the Greenwich lounge there. At other US airports, check which lounge your ticket uses before you fly, since it is not always one run by British Airways.

Baggage and fare rules

Club World includes two checked bags of up to 32 kg (70 lb) each, and members with Gold status or oneworld Emerald get a third. In the cabin you can bring a bag up to 56 x 45 x 25 cm (about 22 x 18 x 10 in) plus a smaller handbag or laptop bag.

The airline's conditions of carriage say many fares are valid only for the flights booked, and some can be changed only for a fee, or not at all, or are nonrefundable. Agents can also sell Select fares, which allow free changes and a refund for a fee, and Select Pro fares, which allow free changes and a full refund with no fee. Select Club World fares on long-haul routes include free seat selection, and Select Pro allows it at booking.

On other Club World fares, seats are free once check-in opens 24 hours before departure, and earlier selection costs extra unless you hold Silver status or higher.

Connecting through Heathrow

Most British Airways flights use Terminal 5, so a typical connection stays in one building. Follow the purple Flight Connections signs and plan on going through security again. Gates in the B and C satellites are reached by a free transit train, so allow extra time. American Airlines uses Terminal 3, and a change of terminal means a free shuttle bus that runs about every 10 minutes.

As reported in January 2024, British Airways raised its minimum connection time for Terminal 5 to Terminal 5 transfers from 60 to 75 minutes, with 90 minutes from Terminal 3 to Terminal 5; your booking shows the minimum it allows. Those minimums apply only to one ticket, so on separate tickets leave much longer to collect bags and check in again.

US citizens need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter the UK, but passengers who connect airside without passing UK border control do not, under an exemption the Home Office calls temporary and under review. You do need one if you leave the airport, fly on within the UK, or continue to Ireland, because the UK treats a traveler heading to Ireland as entering the UK at Heathrow.

Choosing your flight and seat

Aircraft type is the first filter. A350-1000, 787-10 and Heathrow 777 flights should have the Club Suite, while 787-9, A380 and Gatwick flights may not. A quick check is the seat map: four business seats across means Club Suite, while seven or eight across means the older Club World. Aircraft can be swapped close to departure, so look again after any schedule change notice.

In the Club Suite, window seats suit solo travelers and the center pairs work for couples. In the older seat, the rearmost window seats in each cabin have their own path to the aisle: on the 787-9 those are 7A, 7K, 13A and 13K, and on the A380 upper deck 53A, 53K, 59A and 59K.

Eastbound flights from the US are mostly overnight, landing in London early the next morning, and westbound flights leave London during the day. New York offers the widest choice of timing and aircraft. From a gateway with one daily flight, that aircraft decides your seat.

Den Dunn worked with me to get the best price He planned our return trip from Turkeye with an airline that I had no knowledge about. He assured me that Turkish air was great, which they were. He planned our change of planes in Houston, and it was one of the smoothest transitions I have ever had. There was no long lay over. I will definitely be giving him a call the nest time we travel .

Diesel Bond was such a perfect agent. My Visa to Pakistan was extremely hard to do by myself. After 4 months going back forth with submission I was totally worn out. I had never used agency before and will never go back to doing myself! Your agency gave me such peace of mind! Will refer you to everyone! Charles Robards

British Airways business class: questions

Is every British Airways long-haul flight Club Suite?

Not yet. Club Suite is on many British Airways long-haul aircraft, but some flights still use the older Club World seat, which is lie-flat with no door, and not every Club World seat has direct aisle access. Your agent can check the aircraft for your flight.

Which lounge do I use at London Heathrow?

British Airways business class passengers can use the Galleries Club lounges at Heathrow Terminal 5, and First passengers use Galleries First. Lounge access at other airports varies, and your agent can confirm it.

Can you book British Airways from my nearest US city?

British Airways flies to London from many US airports, and American Airlines flights can connect smaller cities on the same ticket. An agent can quote both by phone, the quote form or WhatsApp, 24/7, and confirms the fare with you before you pay.

Does every British Airways business class seat have direct aisle access?

Only the Club Suite, laid out 1-2-1 with a door at every seat. The older Club World seat, still on many 787-9s, the A380s and Gatwick aircraft, sits seven or eight across.

Which US cities have nonstop British Airways flights to London?

Established Heathrow gateways include New York JFK, Boston, Washington Dulles, Philadelphia, Miami, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Atlanta, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. Others are seasonal or newer, such as St. Louis in summer.

Can I use a lounge when I land in London?

Yes. Club World passengers arriving at Terminal 5 can use the Arrivals Lounge for a shower and breakfast, subject to space. It is due for refurbishment during 2027.

How much baggage does Club World include?

Two checked bags of up to 32 kg (70 lb) each, plus a cabin bag and a smaller personal item. Gold and oneworld Emerald members get a third checked bag.

Do I need a UK ETA to connect at Heathrow?

Not if you stay airside and do not pass UK border control, under an exemption the Home Office calls temporary. If you leave the airport, fly on within the UK or continue to Ireland, a US citizen needs an ETA.

Can I pick my Club World seat for free?

On most fares, seat choice is free once check-in opens 24 hours before departure, and choosing earlier costs extra. Select fares and Silver status or higher make it free earlier.
