Guide: New York to Paris
New York to Paris is about 7 hours eastbound and 8.5 hours westbound. Air France, Delta and American fly nonstop from JFK to Charles de Gaulle, and Air France and United fly from Newark. La Compagnie, an all-business-class airline, also flies between Newark and Paris. Most flights leave in the evening and land in Paris early the next morning, so the night is short and a lie-flat seat earns its keep. Spring and fall are the easiest seasons; summer and the December holidays fill first.
Which airport: JFK or Newark, Charles de Gaulle or Orly
In New York the airport follows the airline, so pick the carrier first. Air France, Delta and American fly to Paris from JFK, United and La Compagnie from Newark, and Air France also keeps one daily Newark flight. At JFK, Air France uses Terminal 1, Delta Terminal 4 and American Terminal 8. At Newark, United leaves from Terminal C, Air France and La Compagnie from Terminal B.

Air France plans to move all of its JFK flights to the New Terminal One, now expected to open in the first quarter of 2027, together with a two-level lounge about three times the size of its current Terminal 1 lounge. If you are booking for early 2027, confirm the terminal a few days before you fly.
In Paris, nearly every flight from New York lands at Charles de Gaulle, north-east of the city. Air France and Delta share Terminal 2E, United uses Terminal 1 with its Star Alliance partners, and American is listed in Terminal 2A, though some schedules show 2C. La Compagnie is the exception: it flies Newark to Orly 4, south of Paris.
Nonstop or one stop: five airlines, two New York airports
Nonstop is the normal way to make this trip. In the winter schedule from 25 October 2026, Air France flies several times a day from JFK and once from Newark, Delta twice a day from JFK, United twice a day from Newark and American once a day from JFK, so American runs through the winter too. In summer Air France adds flights, with as many as six a day from JFK.
Cabins differ by aircraft. Air France sells Business on the Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A350-900, and some JFK flights also carry La Première, its first class. This winter Delta puts one daily flight on the Airbus A330-900neo and the other on the Boeing 767-400; Delta says its Delta One Suites with full-height doors are on most A350 and A330-900 flights. United flies Polaris on the Boeing 777 and 767-300, and American flies Flagship Business on a Boeing 787-8 in winter and a 777-200 in summer. Aircraft can change, so check the seat map.
La Compagnie sells only business class, with a daily evening departure from Newark this winter. Its Airbus A321neo has 76 seats that convert to flat beds, laid out two by two, so a window passenger steps past a neighbor to reach the aisle.
With this many nonstops, one stop only makes sense when the nonstops are full on your dates, since a European connection adds hours to a seven-hour trip.
Overnight or daytime: a short night east, mostly daytime flights home
Every eastbound nonstop is an overnight flight. In the winter schedule, evening departures run from about 5:30 pm on Air France to 11:30 pm on Delta, and Air France adds a flight just after midnight on most days. Scheduled flying times are roughly 7 hours to 7 hours 45 minutes. Paris is six hours ahead for most of the year, so the first arrivals touch down around dawn and the last around midday or early afternoon.
The early evening flights give the longest stretch of sleep but land at dawn, hours before most hotels hand over rooms. Later departures, such as United at 10:45 pm or Delta at 11:30 pm, land in late morning, which suits an afternoon meeting or a same-day check-in. To sleep longer, eat in the lounge and skip the meal on board.
Most return flights are daytime flights. Air France's winter departures from Charles de Gaulle to JFK run from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm, Delta's leave late morning and early afternoon, and United leaves for Newark at 9:25 am and 1:25 pm. Scheduled times run about 8 hours 15 minutes to 8 hours 45 minutes, landing in New York between late morning and close to midnight, so on most flights the flat bed serves for working and resting rather than a full night.
When to go and what moves the fare
Summer is the busiest stretch. Air France schedules its most JFK flights in the warm months, and business cabins in both directions tend to fill early from late spring through August. The Christmas and New Year holidays are the other peak.
Paris events add peaks of their own. The French Open starts in late May and runs for two weeks, and Paris Fashion Week comes round twice a year, bringing buyers, press and brands to the city, so business cabins can fill around those dates too.
The quieter months are usually November, outside Thanksgiving week, and January to March. Late April, early May, September and October sit in between, often with more choice of seats than midsummer.
The fare family moves value as much as the date. Delta's Basic Business fares lose Delta One Lounge access for travel from 19 January 2027, United's Basic Polaris tickets exclude its Polaris lounges, and Air France's Business Light fares will not admit you to its new JFK lounge. A slightly higher fare family can restore lounge access, so compare what each ticket includes, not only the fare.
Entry rules for US passport holders, as of October 2026
France is in the Schengen area. As of October 2026, US citizens need no visa for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period across all Schengen countries combined; the United States is on the EU list of visa-exempt countries. Your passport must have been issued within the previous 10 years and stay valid for at least three months after the date you plan to leave.
The EU's Entry/Exit System became fully operational on 10 April 2026 and replaces passport stamps. It registers your passport details, fingerprints and a facial image at the border, so plan for a longer wait at passport control on your first arrival under it.
ETIAS, the travel authorization the EU plans for visa-free visitors, is not running yet: as of October 2026 the European Commission says no applications are being collected and the start date will be announced several months before launch, so ignore any website offering to file one now. Check the official EU pages and travel.state.gov before you fly.
Baggage, lounges and the ground in Paris
Checked bag allowances vary by airline and fare family, and your e-ticket lists them. Delta, for example, applies a 70 lb limit per bag in Delta One. If one ticket mixes airlines, ask your agent which allowance applies.
In New York, Delta One passengers use the Delta One Lounge in JFK Terminal 4, between Concourses A and B, which has a sit-down brasserie. American shares Terminal 8 with British Airways, and its Flagship Lounge there has been renamed the Greenwich Lounge. United's Polaris Lounge at Newark sits in Terminal C between gates C102 and C120. Air France keeps a lounge in JFK Terminal 1 until its move to the New Terminal One.
From Charles de Gaulle, RER B express trains stop only at Aulnay-sous-Bois before Gare du Nord, though the line has a long record of delays and crowding that matter with large bags. Terminal 2 has its own high-speed rail station with trains across France and to Belgium and the Netherlands. The CDG Express, a nonstop train to Gare de l'Est, is scheduled to open in early 2027; until then a taxi or booked car is simpler with luggage.
From Orly, metro Line 14, open since June 2024, reaches Châtelet in about 25 minutes.
Booking tips
- Air France and Delta share a joint business, so their JFK flights can be combined on one ticket for more departure times.
- Charles de Gaulle has its own TGV station, so you can continue to Lyon, Bordeaux or Brussels by train without going into Paris.
- Allow 45 minutes to an hour by car from Charles de Gaulle to central Paris in morning traffic; the RER B train is an alternative with light luggage.
- Late spring and early fall usually have better business class availability than June through August.

Den Dunn worked with me to get the best price He planned our return trip from Turkeye with an airline that I had no knowledge about. He assured me that Turkish air was great, which they were. He planned our change of planes in Houston, and it was one of the smoothest transitions I have ever had. There was no long lay over. I will definitely be giving him a call the nest time we travel .

Diesel Bond was such a perfect agent. My Visa to Pakistan was extremely hard to do by myself. After 4 months going back forth with submission I was totally worn out. I had never used agency before and will never go back to doing myself! Your agency gave me such peace of mind! Will refer you to everyone! Charles Robards
